In times of national emergencies, inclement weather or other disasters, Volt Telecom Group is the one-stop recovery solution for government and commercial data, voice and video service restoration requirements.  We can also provide you with qualified contractors to assist during work stoppage situations.

Emergency Restoration

Our emergency restoration plan enables us to bring qualified, experienced personnel together immediately to help our customers restore telephony and cable service to their customers almost anywhere in the nation within 24 hours.

Our experienced, dedicated project managers act as a single point of contact between the work crews and the customer.  We can draw from a large list of pre-approved contractors who have shown the quality and work ethic that we expect from our employees.  In conjunction, our internal recruiting staff, all of whom have specific knowledge of telco’s and the telecom industry begin calling their contacts to fill any remaining open positions.  Our project managers handle all dispatch, supervision and review and approval of completed work for emergency restoration services.  Within 12 hours, Volt Telecom Group can begin to deploy the following personnel to the affected area:

  • Project managers
  • Cable splicers
  • Dispatch coordinators
  • Fiber splicers
  • Material coordinators
  • Line crews
  • Survey personnel
  • Tree trimming crews

Prior Experience

Ice and sleet storms

North Carolina

2004-2005

A major wireless and wireline service provider contracted Volt Telecom Group to provide emergency restoration to its customers in North Carolina after major weather events in the past two years, including several ice and sleet storms and a category 3 hurricane.   Within the hour, we responded with a dedicated project manager/SPOC from our company, who began dispatching crews within eight hours.

We provided over 30 work crews (60 technicians and 75 splicers) who repaired all lines and restored service within three months.

September 11, 2001

On September 11, 2001, the tragedy at the two World Trade Center towers and the 47-story building at Seven World Trade Center caused substantial damage to virtually all telecommunications services in the area. This affected over 500,000 subscribers, 12,000 businesses and 4,000,000 data circuits in lower Manhattan. Not only was there massive destruction of telecom infrastructure from the building collapses, but also incredible damage was done by debris and dust that spread throughout telephone buildings in the immediate area.

In addition to the telecom services, the power among many of the buildings was also severed. Many of the local buildings had emergency diesel generators as back up for the AC power supply. Eventually the fuel tanks ran dry and entire offices failed.

Volt Telecom Group's Network and Enterprise Solutions Division worked as part of a Disaster Recovery Team, providing approximately 55 technicians and management, around the clock, for up to six months as part of the tremendous rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts immediately adjacent to the World Trade Center site. These daunting and staggering recovery tasks went extremely well, and the customers were very satisfied with the efforts.

Hurricane Opal

When Hurricane Opal hit the sugar sand beaches in the Panhandle of Florida with winds over 144 miles per hour, many businesses and residents were without power and phone service. As the SSP (Single Source provider for Outside Plant Construction services) for a major communications company, Volt Telecom Group mobilized its construction and engineering forces overnight to support the restoration efforts. For months, Volt Telecom Group worked around the clock to support the network and the community surrounding Ft. Walton. In less than four months, Volt Telecom Group placed, tested and spliced over one million feet of cable.

Hurricane Andrew

Homestead and Florida City were faced with the most costly storm in U.S. history because of Hurricane Andrew. Volt Telecom Group’s OSP Engineering Division provided immediate around-the-clock support to the local telephone company in order to design replacement facilities for the hardest hit areas. Volt Telecom Group worked continuously in advance of the massive reconstruction project at its existing contract rates.
